Former US President Ronald Reagan had a good night and has begun eating a day after surgery on a broken hip, according to a statement issued by the family's spokeswoman.
Mr Reagan, who will turn 90 on February 6th, had surgery on Saturday at St John's Medical Centre in Santa Monica to repair his right hip, which was broken in a fall at his home the previous day.
Well-wishers included President Bill Clinton, President-elect George W Bush, former presidents Mr Gerald Ford and Mr George Bush.
Mr Reagan was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease six years ago. In another wing of the same hospital, Ms Maureen Reagan - Mr Reagan's 60-year-old daughter from his first marriage, to actress Jane Wyman - is undergoing treatment for life-threatening skin cancer.
