Continuous testing of food and water used by Irish peacekeeping troops in the Balkans to ensure there is no radiation risks will take place, the Minister for Defence, Mr Smith, has announced.

The Minister yesterday instituted a programme of health screening for Irish troops who have served in the Balkans on peacekeeping missions. About 100 troops are based south-east of Pristina in Kosovo and another 50 in Sarajevo.
