NEW DELHI - A powerful earthquake which killed 40 people in central India three days ago has caused damage worth $30 million (£24.5 million) a state minister said yesterday. Mr R. P. Shukla, Minister for Legislative Affairs of Madhya Pradesh state, said 8,000 houses were flattened and 12,000 others were partially damaged. The quake also injured more than 1,000 people and left thousands homeless.
