SIGNIFICANT progress has been made in talks on the Aer Lingus dispute over cabin crew accommodation in New York.

SIGNIFICANT progress has been made in talks on the Aer Lingus dispute over cabin crew accommodation in New York.

The talks were continuing late last night at the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) to resolve the dispute and address the wider issue of persistent industrial relations problems in the national airline.

Although the strike deadline expired at midnight, SIPTU, the union representing cabin crew said that there would be no disruption to flights while discussions continued.

Both sides began discussions under the chairmanship of the LRC chief executive, Mr Kieran Mulvey, early yesterday morning.

The LRC is understood to have presented various proposals to improve industrial relations in the company. Both sides also discussed criteria for selecting hotel accommodation for staff.

Aer Lingus pilots have agreed criteria on accommodation already in place.
