A postmortem will be carried out today on the body of a man that was found in a ditch in west Dublin yesterday.

It is believed the victim, who was in his early 20s, was stabbed to death before his body was dumped. Detectives discovered the remains in a field close to Bellgree Avenue, Tyrellstown, yesterday afternoon.

A search was sparked in recent days after a tip-off that a missing man had been stabbed a week ago in another location and dumped in the area.

The body remains at the scene this afternoon pending the completion of a forensic examination and the arrival of a representative of the State Pathologist's office.

Investigators have appealed to anyone who may have seen anything unusual or suspicious in the last seven days around Bellgree Avenue or the nearby playing fields to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station on 01-6667000.
