Police in Northern Ireland are investigating two serious assaults on men overnight.

In the first incident, a 32-year-old man with severe head injuries was found unconscious in a Ballymena, Co Antrim, street this morning. The man, found off Orkney Drive at about 4.00 a.m., is in a critical condition in hospital.

Another man (36) with head injuries is recovering in hospital following an attack in Derry city this morning. A man was arrested and is being questioned by police.

A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesman did not give a motive for the attacks.
