A group of people yesterday picketed the Dublin residence of the Papal Nuncio, Dr Luciano Storero, to protest at the Vatican's request for General Pinochet to be returned to Chile from Britain, where he has been detained since last October.
Mr Brendan Butler, a spokesman for the group, said: "We believe that the Catholic Church should be on the side of the many thousands of victims of Pinochet who have requested that the general be extradited to Spain to stand trial for the atrocities committed in Chile during his rule."
