Pedestrian killed by car in Galway

A 19-year-old pedestrian has been struck and killed by a car outside Galway city this morning.

A 19-year-old pedestrian has been struck and killed by a car outside Galway city this morning.

The man was walking on the Moycullen to Barna Rd at around 2.45am when the collision occurred. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was later named locally as Andrew Walsh, from Fethard, Co Tipperary.

A 21-year-old man and a male youth were arrested and questioned at Mill St Garda Station. They were subsequently released and a file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The road is closed pending a forensic scene examination and traffic diversions are in place.
