Eleven passengers were evacuated from a Bus Éireann coach this morning after it caught fire at around 8am on the M1 southbound at J7 Julianstown.

The driver of the 6.40am service from Dublin to Dundalk noticed smoke coming from the vehicle when approaching the toll plaza, and pulled over to evacuate the passengers.

Fire services arrived quickly at the scene and extinguished the blaze.

A spokesman for Bus Éireann said it was too early to say what caused the fire. The vehicle has been brought to the bus depot in Dundalk for technical examination.
