ANKARA - The Turkish coalition government yesterday agreed on holding early elections, the Prime Minister, Mr Necmettin Erbakan, and his junior coalition partner and Foreign Minister, Ms Tansu Ciller, announced.

"We want early legislative elections to better serve the people in stability," Mr Erbakan said at a joint press conference with Ms Ciller. The decision to hold early elections must be approved by the governing bodies of the leaders' parties, and then by parliament.
