Parade attendance steady

The numbers at the West Tyrone parade in Castlederg were on a par with previous years. Several lodges had young men parading for the first time.

The mood, however, was subdued and the protests in support of Drumcree were on many people's minds.

Mr Jim Emery, a deputy grand master of Ireland, said the Orange Order would not bow to anyone or deviate from its objectives in any way not in keeping with its Christian principles.

Following a religious service, parade-goers were addressed by dissident Ulster Unionist MP Mr William Thompson. He called on unionist politicians to withdraw from the Northern Ireland Executive if arms decommissioning does not take place.
