Theatre nurses in the Mid West Regional Hospitals are to picket Ennis, Nenagh and Limerick general hospitals today as part of a claim for higher on-call payments.
The nurses, who are members of the Irish Nurses Organisation (INO), voted overwhelmingly for industrial action last week.
Currently, the call-out rate is €17.81 per hour, but the INO says this is outdated and is looking for an increase to €76 per hour.
According to the spokeswoman, the INO sought to have the issue addressed locally, but health board management have said they are not in a position to negotiate as they were paying the nationally agreed rate.
As yet, there has been no communication between the INO and the health board. The INO said it was available for talks and waiting for to be contacted by the health board.
Although the action is initially a work to rule, an escalation of the action has not been ruled out, an INO spokeswoman said.
Elsewhere, INO nurses in Bantry General Hospital are to implement a work to rule from Tuesday next following a 94 per cent vote in favour of industrial action.
The action in dispute relates to staffing levels on night duty within Bantry General Hospital.
