Stalking and the harassment of women are to become grounds for refusing bail, the Government has confirmed, Ministers agreed yesterday to introduce a technical measure which would bring these offences within the schedule of the Bail Act.

The Act, which was signed into law on Monday, will he amended to pave the way for the courts to deny bail where they believe an accused person may stalk another person, or harass a woman. The offences of stalking and harassment of women are already covered in the Non-Fatal Offences Bill which will be brought within the terms of the Bail Act.
