North Korea is committed to the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula and wants to co-exist peacefully with all parties, the reclusive state's leader Kim Jong-il said today.

Kim's remarks, carried by China's Xinhua news agency, were made during a visit to Pyongyang by a senior Chinese official in what was Kim's first reported meeting with a foreign envoy since he suffered a suspected stroke in August.

"The North Korean side will commit itself to the denuclearisation of the North Korean Peninsula, and hopes to coexist peacefully with other involved parties," Xinhua news agency quoted Kim as saying.
