Monaghan Urban District Council has appointed a subcommittee to look at the most fitting way to mark the 25th anniversary of the loyalist bomb attack that killed seven locals in the Border town on May 17th, 1974, just hours after three bombs had devastated Dublin.

The motion proposed by the three Sinn Fein members of the council suggests a "respectful inter-denominational service incorporating a minute's silence should be held".
