Kuala Lumpur - The sacked Malaysian deputy prime minister, Mr Anwar Ibrahim, yesterday rejected Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's claim that moral reasons were behind his firing, charging the "law of the jungle" was at work.

"The reasons given for my expulsion - because of my low morals - is unacceptable because there have been no formal charges against me," he told more than 2,000 people packed in and around his private home in Kuala Lumpur. "I have repeatedly explained to the Prime Minister that the allegations against me are a series of fabricated lies and deceits. I will absolutely not accept it," he said.
