Minister unveils booklet to help jobseekers

The Minister for Social and Family Affairs today launched a booklet that aims to help people get back to work.

The Working for Workpublication from the Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed (INOU) draws together information from a range service providers to inform those who are unemployed about their entitlements and available supports.

The INOU will distribute 30,000 copies of the booklet all over the country.

“Information on available opportunities is vital to helping people get back to work,” the Minister, Mary Hanafin said today.

“Becoming unemployed can be a great shock and a major source of distress. This information campaign is aimed at ensuring that people have access to the kind of clear information and helpful support that they need to figure out their options and hopefully get back to work as soon as possible.”

John Stewart, co-ordinator with the INOU, said: “It is the only comprehensive publication that brings together the wide range of supports available to unemployed people trying to return to work and/or to access education or training.”

“Given the rise in unemployment and the unprecedented rise in redundancy figures, the latest edition of Working for Work contains an expanded section with information for people who have been made redundant,” he added.

The booklet is also available on the INOU’s website.

The Department of Social and Family Affairs is providing funding of €61,000 for the Working for Workpublication.
