The Green Party MEP for Leinster, Ms Nuala Ahern, has called on the Government to make a commitment to do follow-up studies on the people who "had been and still are being affected by the Windscale disaster of 1957."
At a conference in Carlingford, Co Louth, commemorating the incident at Windscale 40 years ago this week, Ms Ahern said these studies needed to be undertaken urgently as it was necessary to find out if any genetic damage was being passed on.
