A Green Party MEP has asked the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Amnesty International to investigate the "inhumane" conditions of republican prisoners in British jails.
The allegations of human rights abuses against prisoners were so serious that they warranted "thorough investigation", Ms Patricia McKenna told the committee.
