Credit card firm MBNA said today it is consulting with its employees about changes to its business here that may result in job losses.

MBNA, which is part of Bank of America, said the process was part of a regular business structure review and that the company was committed to the Irish market.

Bank of America currently employs 1,700 people in Ireland. Of this, 1,000 are employed in its MBNA card services division.

"We are currently consulting with associates about potential changes in our business and this may mean a modest reduction in the number of associates employed by MBNA as a result," a spokeswoman for Bank of America said.
