A 19-year-old Downpatrick man was being treated in hospital last night after he was shot in a suspected so-called punishment attack in the town.
The victim was attacked by men who dragged him into a laneway between Dufferin Avenue and Edward Street at about 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Police say they suspect republicans were responsible for the shooting.
