A Louth man who was accused of murdering teenager Niall Dorr in Dundalk just over two years ago is to be sentenced in mid-December. Douglas Ward (36), Loughantarve, Knockbridge, Co Louth, had pleaded guilty to manslaughter but not guilty to murder.

His plea has been accepted at the Central Criminal Court by lawyers representing the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Mr Dorr (18), Avondale Road, died after he was attacked while walking home with friends at Castle Road, Dundalk, on October 14th, 2010. He died in hospital from severe head injuries two days later.

Ward has been remanded in custody until he is sentenced on December 17th.

Mr Justice Paul Carney directed that the court be furnished with a victim impact report on the day of the sentencing.
