A man has appeared in Dublin District Court on charges relating to a Criminal Assets Bureau (Cab) investigation into the activities of a north Dublin drugs gang.

Stephen Carass (34), with an address in Kingscourt, Co Cavan, was remanded in custody on two charges related to fraud and theft offences.

Mr Carass, who was described as unemployed with a wife and a mortgage, made no response to the charges.

Det Sgt Mark Gallagher from the Criminal Assets Bureau told the court Mr Carass was arrested this morning and charged at Clondalkin Garda station.

Gda Gallagher requested that Mr Carass be remanded for at least seven days “due to the nature of the investigation and the seriousness of the charges”.

No application for bail was made and Judge Cormac Dunne remanded Mr Carass in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on December 19th.
