A Co Tyrone man has been remanded in custody on an attempted murder charge

A Co Tyrone man has been remanded in custody on an attempted murder charge. Mr Trevor George Nixon (42), unemployed, of Main Street, Fintona, is accused of trying to murder Mr William Gerard McLaughlin, of Orr Park, Newtownstewart, in Newtownstewart, on Wednesday night.

Mr Nixon was remanded to Omagh Court on Tuesday next when he appeared at Cookstown Magistrates' Court yesterday.

A detective constable said when charged, Mr Nixon replied: "Not guilty." The detective constable agreed with a defence solicitor that Mr Nixon had always maintained he acted in self-defence.
