Man killed in road collision named

A pedestrian who was fatally hit by a van in Portmarnock, Co Dublin a week ago has been named by gardaí.

A pedestrian who was fatally hit by a van in Portmarnock, Co Dublin a week ago has been named by gardaí.

He was Gerard Montgomery (40) of Glin Avenue, Coolock, Dublin.

Mr Montgomery was struck by a van at Blackwood Lane at about 7.15pm on December 29th 2007.

He was taken by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the van was not injured.

Some 336 people died on the State's roads last year, while 112 people died on the roads in the North.
