Man killed in Co Meath house fire

A man has died in a house fire in Co Meath.

A man has died in a house fire in Co Meath.

Gardaí spotted smoke coming from the house on Connaught Street in Athboy at 11.35pm last night and alerted the fire brigade.

The 47-year-old was found in the house.

He was taken to Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan where he was pronounced dead.

An empty house next to the property was destroyed in the blaze while the roof of a third house was damaged.

A Garda spokesman said the scene has been preserved for a technical examination. Foul play is not suspected.

“At the moment it doesn’t appear to be suspicious but investigations are continuing,” he added.
