A 29-year-old man who was questioned over the death of a Dublin pensioner has been released by gardaí without charge.

A 29-year-old man who was questioned over the death of a Dublin pensioner has been released by gardaí without charge.

Edward Boylan (74) was stabbed to death with a samurai sword on Saturday afternoon.

His attacker had attempted to burn his body with lighter fluid.

The body of Mr Boylan was discovered by firefighters at his home in Ravensdale Close, Kimmage.

His house was part of a secure retirement complex run by Dublin City Council.

The 29-year-old man was arrested on Saturday evening in the city centre and questioned. His detention at Crumlin Garda station was extended but he was released yesterday and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
