A man and an eight-year-old girl were killed this morning when their car crashed into a tree in Co Antrim.

Another two young girls - aged five and four - were injured in the crash on the Ballyhill Road shortly after 9am but they are understood to be in stable condition in hospital this evening.

The vehicle, a black Ford Escort, ended up wrapped around a tree and the emergency services had to cut the roof off to gain access.

It is believed the car may have clipped the back of the lorry before the crash. The names of the deceased have not been released. The country road is narrow and bumpy but the accident happened on a straight stretch.
