A man who punched a police officer on the mouth after a car taking part in a GAA victory cavalcade was stopped in Maghera, Co Derry, has been fined £75.

Fintan Bernard Cassidy (34), Halfgayne Road, Maghera, admitted assaulting the officer in the early hours of June 11th this year.

A special sitting of Magherafelt Magistrates' Court heard yesterday that local GAA club Slaughtneil had been holding a celebration after winning the Co Derry minor hurling championship.
