Gardai in north Dublin last night seized 10 kilos of cannabis, an amount of heroin and arrested a man who was recently released from prison after serving a lengthy term for armed robbery, writes Jim Cusack.

The seizure was made at a house at St Anne's Park which was under surveillance since the weekend.

Officers from the Divisional Task Force and from the District Drug Unit in Raheny Station arrested the man when he arrived at the house and went to the drugs.

He was taken to Raheny Station where he was being held late last night under part of the Drugs Trafficking Act which allows his detention for up to seven days.

The man was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in the mid 1980s after an armed robbery in central Dublin during which he was shot and injured in an confrontation with gardai.

After the man was arrested gardai raided a number of other premises including an apartment in the city centre where goods, believed to be stolen, were recovered. It is estimated the drugs had a street value of over £100,000.
