ONE MAN was killed and a second seriously injured in a collision between a car and an SUV on the main Cork to Kerry road near Killarney early yesterday.
The dead man is understood to be 35-year-old German who had a business in Killarney town centre. He was travelling towards Cork when the crash occurred near a bend after Glenflesk, just before the Loo Bridge junction to Kenmare.
The driver of the larger vehicle, believed to be from Clonakilty and travelling towards Killarney, was cut from the vehicle by Fire Service personnel and taken to Kerry General Hospital. His condition was said to be comfortable last night.
Both men were alone in their vehicles when the incident occurred in darkness at about 7.15am. Emergency services and Garda technical experts were quickly at the scene. The road was sealed off until late yesterday afternoon, with traffic to and from Cork diverted to minor roads.
Nine people have died on Kerry roads so far this year.
