Foggy conditions are being blamed for a multivehicle collision that claimed the life of a man in Co Kilkenny yesterday.
The victim, Oisín Crotty (19), was from The Rower near Inistioge in south Kilkenny and was on his way to work when the crash happened at about 8.15am.
It is understood there was heavy fog at the time on the old Waterford-Kilkenny road, a straight stretch of the N10 not far from the M9 and near the GAA club in Danesfort.
The collision happened between Danesfort and Foulkstown, about half a mile from the village on the Kilkenny side.
Mr Crotty, son of Seán and Mairéad Crotty, The Rower,was travelling to Kilkenny city where he was an apprentice with ESB Networks. He was a former juvenile GAA player.
The male van driver was injured in the incident and was described as being “serious but stable” after being taken to Waterford Regional Hospital. Another man was taken to St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny and was said to be suffering from “serious injuries”.
