A major fire has broken out at a carpet factory in Kilkenny and at least seven fire engines are attempting to bring the blaze under control.

The fire is believed to have started at the All Floors factory on the Hebron industrial estate at around midday.

Seven units of the fire brigade fought the blaze, which spread to three other buildings in the estate.

The buildings are gutted, but fire officers are reported to be relieved that the fire did not spread to a nearby factory containing highly inflammable adhesives and nearby oil tanks.

There have been no reports of any injuries.
