Lufthansa says January traffic rose 9.4%

German airline Lufthansa said today its passenger traffic in January rose 9.4 per cent over the same month the previous year.

Traffic, expressed as the number of paying passengers multiplied by the distance they flew, rose 9.4 per cent to 6.84 billion revenue passenger kilometres.

The airline said the amount of freight and post carried in January fell 5.3 per cent to 114,000 tonnes.

The airline's load factor, which measures the average number of seats sold as a proportion of seats available on its flights, fell 1.2 percentage points to 68.4 per cent.
