Washington - Nearly two-thirds of Americans are afraid of contracting the AIDS virus but most still shun condoms and engage in unprotected sex, a new survey showed yesterday.
A poll by the condom-maker, Durex, found that 65 per cent of Americans fear contracting HIV but only 13 per cent of those questioned said they used a condom each time they had sexual intercourse.
The survey of 10,000 Americans aged 16 and older also found that 56 per cent of Americans had changed their sexual practices as a result of AIDS awareness. But nearly two-thirds of these said they rely on their own judgment about their sexual partner before deciding whether to use a condom.
