Letter to Colm Quinlan, Regional Officer, Unite Trade Union dated February 16th.

Dear Mr Quinlan

I refer to your letter of today [16th] addressed to Mr Tony Hession which has been brought to the attention of the Board.

The Board has asked me to convey to you its understanding of the concerns which you have expressed on behalf of your members who work in the Group about the events that became public last week.

As has been stated previously, the Board has expressed its strong disapproval of and disappointment with some of the specific measures used to support Anglo Irish Bank during 2008 and the fact that the Board itself was not informed of the specific manner in which such support had been afforded to Anglo Irish Bank. The Board fully appreciates that the events which have now become public have damaged confidence in the Group and it appreciates in particular the real disappointment of staff at what has transpired.

For its part, the Board is focussed on:

ensuring full co-operation with the investigation taking place and

ensuring that the businesses in the Group remain focussed on meeting the challenges at hand – which are considerable.

In particular the Board wishes to state its full confidence in the Chairman and its full support for her at this difficult time. The Board believes that it is important for all employees that we don’t allow ourselves to become distracted from the real challenge facing the Group at this time.

Yours sincerely

Ciarán Long

Company Secretary – on behalf of the IL&P Board
