Le Tissier could retire at end of season

Southampton and former England midfielder Matthew Le Tissier could retire at the end of the season.

Southampton and former England midfielder Matthew Le Tissier could retire at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old has suffered injuries for the past three seasons and his contract with Southampton runs out in June. Le Tissier, who joined the club in 1986, does not know whether he will be offered a new deal.

"I don't know what the future holds at the moment but if I do not play here then I will not play anywhere else," Le Tissier told the club's website.

"I have not heard anything about a new contract and I would not really expect anything will be done now until the end of the season.

"I would love to stay but only if I am going to be able to stay fit and be able to play. It has been an incredibly frustrating time," he said.

Le Tissier has a testimonial on May 14th against an England XI, and this could mark his final game for Southampton.
