Plans for a fraternal visit to comrade Fidel Castro to thank him for his support for the hunger strikers 20 years ago have been put on hold following the Colombian debacle. Conservative Irish-Americans - and even some of the more liberal ones - have been taken aback by the disclosure of the rumble in the jungle. Damage limitation dictates that Irish America must be placated, and for Adams to go now would only make a bad situation worse.
