Theeputation of Hollywood's most bankable couple was comprehensively restored yesterday, as Tom Cruise and his wife, Nicole Kidman, accepted substantial libel damages from Express Newspapers in London for alleging their marriage was a "hypocritical sham".
Cruise (36), yesterday heard the paper apologise for the "highly offensive" article, which claimed the marriage was undertaken to conceal their homosexuality or as a shrewd business arrangement.
The piece headed, "Cruising for a bruising . . . What's the inside story on Hollywood's Golden Couple?", also alleged Cruise was impotent and sterile and the two had adopted their two children merely as a fashion statement. The award of over £100,000 has been donated to charity.
