Kerry Mountain Rescue have recovered a body from the foot of cliffs on Mangerton Mountain which may be that of a Swedish man missing for almost two years.
The body was found last night by a farmer who was herding sheep in the area.
This morning, 24 members of Kerry Mountain Rescue accompanied by two gardaí and two local farmers set of to search the area around the find and recover the remains.
The team carried out a comprehensive search of the area to recover any items that may have belonged to the deceased person.
A sokeswoman for Kerry Mountain Rescue said the 365-metre-high cliffs were the highest inland cliffs in the country and were very inaccessible.
It is believed the remains may have become visible due to a recent landslide in the area.
The body may be that of Olof Jansson (22) who has not been heard of since he set off on a trek from Mangerton Mountain to Carrauntoohil in late December 2004.
He had been married a week earlier and had not given details of his route. His disappearance sparked a major search of the area.
A formal identification of the remains may take some weeks.
