A Co Kerry farmer was convicted in Killarney District Court yesterday on 15 counts of having animal remedies containing illegal growth promoters and growth hormones. James Spillane, of Headford, Killarney, was fined a total of £12,000 and given three months to pay the fine by Judge Humphrey Kelleher. Spillane pleaded guilty to the charges.
The remedies, which included clenbuterol, were contained in bottles and syringes, some with needles attached. They were found at Spillane's farm on April 13th, 2000.
Judge Kelleher fined Spillane £800 on each charge.
