A cousin of Sinn Fein president Mr Gerry Adams lodged an application in Belfast High Court yesterday for judicial review of the DPP's decision not to prosecute RUC officers who had allegedly beaten him up.

David Adams (40) was awarded damages of £30,000 against the RUC last year for injuries he received following his arrest during an IRA murder attempt on a senior detective. He was later sentenced to 25 years for conspiracy to murder.

Before any judicial review can take place a judge has to grant leave and it is expected the application will be heard when the court resumes after next week's Hallowe'en break.
