A High Court judge says he wants to be informed about the exact nature and purpose of the Stonehenge-like structure built on Achill Island by developer Joe McNamara.

Mr Justice Roderick Murphy yesterday gave lawyers representing Mr McNamara, who is working in Britain, two weeks to provide an affidavit setting out what the structure is and what purpose it is intended to serve.

The judge sought the explanation after adjourning Mayo County Council’s application for orders forcing the developer to demolish the structure and restore the site.
