A Dublin man who squirted blood into the face of a shop assistant during a syringe robbery has been jailed for four-and-a-half years by Judge Elizabeth Dunne at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Duncan Wheeler (38), from Charlemont Street, Dublin, pleaded guilty to seven counts of robbery and possession of a syringe between October 22nd and November 12th, 2000.

Det Garda J.J. Martin told Ms Martina Baxter BL, prosecuting, that Wheeler committed the robberies to feed his drug habit.

Det Garda Martin said none of his victims were physically injured but all experienced trauma.

Judge Dunne imposed three year sentences for each robbery except for the case involving the blood, where she imposed a four-and-a-half year sentence. Each sentence is to be served concurrently.
