Irish men are considerably more likely to spend online than their female counterparts, according to a new survey.

The research - carried out by 3V Transactions Services, which sells pre-paid disposable credit cards - found that Irish males aged between 21 and 30 outstrip their female counterparts by 38 per cent for online spending.

The company said 69 per cent of its 60,000 customers in the Republic were male.

The survey showed the most popular website for purchases was Paypal but that travel websites such as Ryanair.ie and Aer Lingus.ie were also included in the top ten as were entertainment sites such as Play.com, Ticketmaster and I-Tunes.
