Man (40s) arrested for waving fake pistol on Dart

A man in his 40s has been arrested for carrying a fake gun on a Dart in Dublin city centre.

The man is believed to have taken the imitation pistol out while on the Dart on Monday and waved it around at other passengers, before Gardaí arrested him when the train reached Tara Stret station.

The armed Emergency Response Unit was called to the station after 3pm along with uniformed Gardaí, and the man was arrested.

One man who was on the platform at the time said there was no way people could tell the pistol was not a real firearm.

“He’s lucky he wasn’t shot. It wasn’t a water gun, it was a proper imitation pistol. The guards in fairness were here within minutes,” the man said.

It is believed a passenger on the Dart called the Gardaí before the train reached Tara Street station in the city centre.

A Garda spokesman confirmed a man had been arrested in connection with the incident.

“A man in his 40s has been arrested following an incident at Tara Street Dart Station, ” he said.

“He is currently being detained at Pearse Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act,” he added.
