Ireland has been found guilty of failing to comply with an EU Directive on the control of dangerous substances within the required time.

The State has been ordered to pay the costs of the action, taken by the European Commission, to the European Court of Justice, in Brussels.

The Directive involved, passed in 1996, should have been complied with by February 1999.
