Tehran - The UN refugee agency said yesterday Iran should prepare to receive more than 400,000 Afghan refugees if the United States attacked Afghanistan.

"According to our estimates, about 1.5 million refugees will go to neighbouring countries - one million to Pakistan, 400,000 to Iran and the rest to Central Asian countries," said Mr Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees chief of mission in Afghanistan.
