Intoxicated undertaker drove hearse dangerously

A Waterford undertaker assaulted two gardaí after they observed him driving a hearse dangerously in Galway city.

A Waterford undertaker assaulted two gardaí after they observed him driving a hearse dangerously in Galway city.

Peter Hennessy (23), of South Parade, Waterford, works in his father's undertaking business. He had come to Galway on March 15th last to carry out funeral arrangements, accompanied by his brother, Thomas Hennessy. That night, two gardaí observed the hearse swerving over a white line before cutting in in front of the patrol car. They noticed Peter Hennessy was intoxicated but when theywent to arrest him he knocked one over and grabbed the other. Thomas Hennessy tried to obstruct them.

Peter Hennessy was fined €400 for failing to give a sample, banned from driving for two years and fined €600 for assault. Thomas Hennessy was fined €600.
