London - The British Health Secretary, Mr Frank Dobson, last night launched an inquiry after organs for transplant were donated on the condition that they were given to a white person.
The inquiry will look into the circumstances of a donation of kidneys to the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield, on the agreement that they would only go to a white recipient. Details about the case were broadcast last night on BBC2's Newsnight.
Mr Dobson said he was "appalled" by the case. Dr Vivienne Nathanson of the BMA, said she: "The majority of donors would be horrified".
